Shenzhen has been promoted from the second tier of Chinese football, League C, to the top flight of the country's premier league, the China League One (CSL), following their relegation from the top tier last season.

The move was announced by the Chinese Football Association on Tuesday, with Shenzhen joining a growing list of clubs that have experienced both success and failure in recent years under the leadership of their respective owners.

"Shenzhen's promotion is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team, management and staff," said the club's chairman, who declined to be named.

"Their achievement is also a reflection of the support they've received from fans, sponsors and partners."

The club has struggled for form in recent seasons, finishing bottom of the CSL table in 2019 and losing out on a spot in the top flight last year.

However, they have made progress this season, winning four matches and drawing two, leaving them just three points behind the top six teams.

"We're excited about what lies ahead for us at Shenzhen," added the chairman. "We're determined to build upon our achievements this season and continue to push forward towards greater heights in the future."

The promotion comes as part of a wider restructuring of the CSL, which saw the top-flight expanded to 16 teams in 2018-19 and the bottom-tier reduced to eight teams in 2017-18.

While some clubs may struggle to adapt to the new format, others will benefit from the increased competition and exposure it brings.

For Shenzhen, however, it's a significant step forward and one that could lead to even greater success in the future.

As the Chinese football scene continues to evolve, it's clear that Shenzhen is well placed to take advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead.
