In a thrilling opening matchday of the Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) continued their dominant form by defeating fellow top-flight side Clermont 4-2 at Parc des Princes on Sunday.
The game was a high-scoring affair with PSG scoring two goals in each half to secure a comfortable victory over their opponents. Mbappé, who has been in sensational form this season, scored twice as he provided assists for both of PSG's second-half goals.
The first goal came from a well-worked move involving Mbappé, Neymar and Cavani before the Brazilian striker finished clinically from close range. The second goal saw Mbappé score his second of the night after receiving a pass from the impressive Marquinhos.
Clermont, despite creating several chances throughout the match, could not find the back of the net as PSG dominated possession and created numerous opportunities to add to their lead. Despite being down to ten men for the final 15 minutes through a red card to substitute defender Doulou, PSG were able to hold on to their slender lead to take all three points.
This result sees PSG sit top of the table with four points from just one match, while Clermont remain bottom of the table having lost all of their opening fixtures. With so much talent across the pitch, it will be interesting to see how PSG fare against stronger opposition in the coming weeks.
